Certified BrainPOP Educator Workshop
Feedback form is now closed.
BrainPOP is honored to be partnering with the team at 21st Century Learning International to bring this unique experience to Asia. Jointly hosted by one of our team members and an International School teacher who recently earned BrainPOP Certified Educator status, the session will be hands-on and collaborative. Participants will have multiple opportunities to engage in dialogue, and share in pairs, small groups, and large groups.

BrainPOP’s half-day workshop is ideal for educators interested in digital tools that address critical thinking, personalized and game-based learning, and assessment. We will also explore strategies for differentiating in STEAM content and beyond.

Enhanced by individual student accounts and a recent redesign that makes us mobile-ready, BrainPOP now lets you challenge learners 24/7, at school, at home, and on tablets or phones. This workshop will focus on American English offerings via BrainPOP, BrainPOP Jr., and BrainPOP ESL. Our resources are also available in world languages such as Spanish, French, and Mandarin.

Attendees will explore the breadth of BrainPOP’s features – including vetted educational games, playful assessment activities, custom assessment, concept mapping, written reflection, and much more – and how they can be used to meet a range of teacher and student needs.

This session serves as an excellent BrainPOP overview and also constitutes the first step in our certification program. Details about the certification program can be found at bpopne.ws/CBEGeneral. Earning the distinction of Certified BrainPOP Educator includes access to our exclusive Google+ community, which will connect you to educators from across the United States and beyond. Here, CBEs collaborate around classroom innovation, sharing unique initiatives while discussing best practices and approaches with fellow educators. It’s also a place where we communicate BrainPOP opportunities and events with all of our CBEs, and collect feedback on a variety of topics. Certified BrainPOP Educators are the first to know about new developments at BrainPOP and may receive the opportunity to beta test upcoming features, advise developers, and more.

Tentative outline of the 3-hour session:

Intro: Whole-group custom quiz to highlight the content of the session, set schema, and customize offerings for attendees.

Concept Mapping: A new look at digital, video-based concept mapping with the Make-a-Map tool. Attendees will explore concept mapping and develop their own maps. Classroom pedagogy and strategies will be examined and shared.

Game Play for Learning: Leveraging free games from the BrainPOP GameUp portal, attendees will participate in a shared game play activity to personally explore testing hypotheses, collaborative problem solving, and critical thinking. Advanced game features, such as SnapThought for written reflection, will be implemented and discussed with an eye toward classroom application.

Game Play for Assessment: Attendees will team up in pairs as they continue to engage in deep learning around core content through the use of GameUp’s educational games. Strategies for incorporating games for formative assessment will be discussed.

Personalization: A look at individual educator and student use of BrainPOP with MyBrainPOP and the Quiz Mixer. Attendees will learn how to create their own custom assessments via BrainPOP-style quizzes, like the one used to kick off the workshop. They’ll also uncover the benefits of individual accounts and maximizing site access across multiple devices and platforms.

Integration Planning: Attendees will have the opportunity to plan for best practice implementation of their new learning upon returning to the classroom.
Q&A, Next Steps Toward Certification, and Wrap Up

A Few Notes:

Any attending teachers from a non-subscribing school will have special access to BrainPOP following the conference event, so that they may put what they learn at the workshop into practice.

Attendees who do have school-wide access to BrainPOP are asked to create a personal My BrainPOP account prior to the training. This support video can help.

We recommend that attendees bring their own laptops or tablets in order to get the most out of this session. We look forward to meeting you and sharing BrainPOP’s newest features!
