KEYNOTE: Fostering Collaborative Creativity & Problem-Solving Competencies in Everyday Teaching & Learning

A major global educational challenge today lies with the question of how schooling systems and educators can more effectively scaffold the development of the ‘new knowledge economy’ competencies such as creativity and collaboration in learners, at both the individual and collective levels.

On this front, two imperative questions continue to confound educators: How can we make visible or ‘see’ 21st century competencies (21CC) in everyday teaching and learning? What are some ways that we can identify and foster 21CC as they occur dynamically in students’ peer interactions during the process of learning? This workshop engages directly with these challenging questions.

In this workshop, Dr. Tan will introduce participants to a key 21CC, namely, collaborative creativity in team problem-solving. Using research-based evidence, she will share a dialogic framework that can be used to analyse students’ talk-in-interactions during problem-solving, and show how successful and unsuccessful teams differ in their talk patterns throughout their problem-solving process. This will lead into discussions with participants on how collaborative creativity in team problem-solving may be cultivated through a dialogic learning and teaching approach.
