Teaching for Student Agency: Towards a School Culture that Empowers Student Agency

The students of today will enter a world full of new challenges and exciting opportunities. Schools are beginning to recognise this through learning programmes that focus on the long-life skills and dispositions that children will need to become problem finders and solvers in this age of innovation.

Teaching for creativity, collaboration, critical thinking, compassion and communication skills is increasingly the norm but our students need more. Tomorrow's students must be agents for change, empowered by understandings of their capacity to learn, problem solve, take affirmative action and guide their destinies.

This demands teaching for student agency. This presentation will outline how powerful pedagogy and school culture has been used to achieve this.
